Which body parts are the most sensitive to radiation exposition?
Thyroid glands, gonads, the breast area, bone marrow, and the head, including the eyes. When you are planning to buy radiation protection clothes, consider which body parts are exposed to the radiation the most. Aprons and vest-skirt sets provide protection to many of your sensitive organs. Thyroid glands require extra protection in case of several medical processes.
How can I choose the right radiation protection clothes?
It depends on many things what the ideal choice is. For example, if the products – especially aprons – are being used frequently or for a long time each day, lead-free TrueLite® products are recommended, because of their lower weight. If the medical staff is exposed to direct and scattered radiation, too, consider purchasing additional body part protection elements, for example caps and thyroids. However, we cannot be held responsible for choosing the right type of apron with the right protection level. Please always consult the experts of your medical staff.
The higher the protection level is, the better the product is, isn’t it?
Generally said, yes. On the other hand, higher protection level essentially comes with higher weight (and higher price, too). If the medical staff is being exposed to radiation infrequently – or its level is relatively low –, it may be worth purchasing clothes with lower protection level, but lower weight.
Are lead-free products better than those which contain lead?
From the environmental point of view, definitely. Lead counts as hazardous waste, its disposal can be expensive. Moreover, lead-free products are lighter so it is more comfortable and less exhausting to wear them for an extended period of time. In most cases, we recommend our lead-free TrueLite® products.
The lead compound TrueComfi® radiation protection elements are, on the other hand, provide better protection in case of X-ray tubes with extreme voltage range (e.g. around 150kV). It is worth considering this option if the staff is exposed to this sort of radiation, especially if the protection has to be used for short periods only. However, we cannot be held responsible for choosing the right type of apron with the right protection level. Please always consult the experts of your medical staff.
How can I learn the voltage of the X-ray tubes we use?
Consult the User’s Manual of the device and the protocol you use.
How do I know which size I should order?
The actual size (width and length in most cases) of the products is always shown on the product pages. We also have a measuring guide, which helps you decide the correct size. The most important things you should pay attention to are the following:
- The protection piece of clothes should fully cover the body part to be protected
- The aprons and skirts must be at least of knee length, since knees are particularly susceptible to radiation
- There should be no gaps where the protected body parts can be exposed to radiation (e.g. the sides of the breasts, under the armpits) – even if the staff are moving or bending up or down (e.g. there should be no gap appearing between around the waist in case of vest-skirt sets)
In case of non-standard sizes consider having the product customized.
Can I order customized products?
Yes, you can. If you prefer an apron of non-standard size, logos embroidered on the products or similar modifications, you can make a customized order.
How can I order from your webshop?
First you have to register to our webshop as a legal entity. After that has happened, you can make an order.
Our webshop provides business to business (B2B) services only. If you wish to make an order as a private entity (e.g. a surgeon) please consult our customer service.
How do I store the products?
When they are not in use, always put them on a hanger and hang them up. This prevents the fabric from being damaged. If you have to transfer them, put them back into their original packaging and carefully fold them in the same way as they had been when they were delivered. Apart from transferring, do not bend the products.
Also, do not put heavy objects on them, and keep them away from sharp edges (which might cause cracks) and environmental extremities (e.g. heat sources, direct sunlight, flying dust, corrosives, moisture).
How do I clean the products?
The easiest and best way to clean them is to put some soap or detergent (generally used for cleaning household items) on a piece of cloth, wipe the product, put some cold water on another piece of cloth, wipe the product for rinsing, and finally, wipe the product with a dry piece of cloth.
Mind that many agents used for cleaning (e.g. acetone, chlorides) may damage the radiation protection clothing.
For more details, consult our cleaning and maintenance guide.
Are the products waterproof?
Yes, they are. However, do not expose them intentionally to water or other liquids. Also, do not put them into a washing machine or any other device for cleaning.
How do I dispose the products?
TrueComfi® products contain lead, they count thus as hazardous waste. Consult the local authorities for further details. TrueLite® products are not hazardous, they can be recycled.
